It depends on the practice and your plan

Many functional medicine practices are cash-pay. Some accept insurance for office visits or standard lab tests, and some provide a receipt (often called a superbill) you can submit yourself for possible out-of-network reimbursement.

Questions to ask your insurer

Is this provider in network? Are naturopathic physician visits covered under my plan? Do I have out-of-network benefits, and what is my deductible? Which lab tests are covered, and does it matter which lab processes them?

HSAs and FSAs

Health savings and flexible spending accounts can often be used for qualified medical care. Whether a specific visit, test or supplement qualifies depends on IRS rules and your plan administrator, so check before you pay.
